Client Intake Coordinator/Paralegal, AmeriCorps Legal Advocate

HLA seeks an AmeriCorps Legal Advocate (ALA) to serve as a Client Intake Coordinator/Paralegal to screen client intake calls and assist attorneys representing clients. This position provides recent graduates with a superior opportunity to assist those in need, advance social justice and learn about our health care system and the law.

The position’s responsibilities include:

  • handling all initial client intake calls,
  • preparing case summaries in client database,
  • providing research assistance and administrative support to attorneys.

Qualifications preferred include:

  • bilingual (English/Spanish),
  • legal or consumer assistance background,
  • proficiency in Microsoft software,
  • sense of humor and enthusiasm for public interest advocacy,
  • patience on the phone,
  • meticulous organizational and time management skill, and
  • ability to effectively multi-task.

For this position, ALA-Massachusetts is looking for candidates who have an interest in poverty law, a commitment to service, and strong communications skills. Because AmeriCorps Advocates have recurring access to vulnerable populations, selected candidates will have to pass a three-part criminal background check to serve.

To be eligible for ALA-Massachusetts, candidates must be:

•             18 years of age or over

•             A U.S. citizen or permanent resident

•             Have a minimum of a bachelor’s degree.
