April 4, 2017: Advocating for Gender Affirming Health Care

April 04, 2017 at 12:00 PM • Health Law Advocates

The current administration's promise to repeal the Affordable Care Act and its support for an anti-trans agenda pose a very real threat to the health of the trans community and gender non-conforming community. HLA, along with our partners in LGBTQ advocacy, are prepared to defend the health care rights of trans and gender non-conforming clients. In this effort, we are holding a training designed to equip HLA's Legal Network and other advocates to serve trans people who face legal barriers to coverage of medically necessary services.

We will convene at HLA's office in Downtown Boston to discuss the triumphs and challenges of advocating for health care coverage for the trans community, including a history of national litigation, the current climate in Massachusetts, and practice tips for ensuring health care coverage for gender affirming procedures and treatment.

Presenters include nationally renowned attorney and director of GLAD's Transgender Rights Project, Jennifer Levi, long-time trans rights activist and Executive Director of MTPC, Mason Dunn, and HLA's own Andrew Cohen, Director of HLA's Trans Health Access Project.
