Transgender Massachusetts residents, particularly those with low-incomes, routinely face unjust denials of treatment for gender dysphoria and other health care needs. HLA’s Transgender Health Care Access Project helps low-income transgender Massachusetts residents overcome wrongful denials of health care and coverage. No other Massachusetts legal aid organization currently operates a targeted program dedicated to providing direct legal services for transgender consumers who face barriers to health care. HLA is also an active member of the Transgender Health Care Access Coalition which promotes policy reforms to improve health care access for trans individuals and brings information to the community to build the knowledge base around trans health access issues.

This program is supported by The Boston Foundation and the Eastern Bank Foundation.
